GRE is bifurcated in two ways: General GRE and Subject GRE. General GRE test is a Computer Based Test (CBT), whereas Subject GRE is a paper based test. The test can be taken as often as they are offered.
It is a computer adaptive test that students need to take if they wish to apply for admission into a Postgraduate Program (PGP) in areas other than management. This test measures the ability of a student in verbal, quantitative and analytical areas. GRE scores strongly correlate with the probability of Success in graduate school. The higher the score, the more likely are the chances of admission into the institutes. The scoring is out of 1600.
Prospective graduate applicants take the General Test. GRE test scores are used by admissions or fellowship panels to supplement undergraduate records and other qualification for graduate study. The scores provide common measures for comparing the qualification of applicants and aid in evaluating grades and recommendations.
